A music for piano invasion that will involve not only downtown Milan, but even the most remote outskirts, reaching the so-called Rogoredo’s Drugs Grove. It will be the Icelandic pianist Olafur Arnalds who will inaugurate the Piano City’s 2019 edition in Milan, scheduled from May 17 to 19 throughout the city, with more than 450 concerts. The opening concert, following the tradition, will be held on the main stage of the Galleria d’Arte Moderna, the festival’s main site together with the Palazzina Liberty. Again at the GAM he who is considered piano’s rebel genius, Alan Clark, the famous Dire Straits’ keyboard player, will perform on Saturday, May 18. Piano City will liven up the nights and the dawns with its concerts: at the Palazzina Liberty, festival’s focus during nighttime, Bill Laurance, Snarky Puppy’s pianist, Hania Rani and Chad Lawson will perform.
The sun will rise instead with two concerts in the locations that celebrate Leonardo da Vinci in the 500-year anniversary since his death, in Santa Maria delle Grazie square, in the Refectory of which the Last Supper is preserved, where Alexandra Streliski will perform, and at the Hippodrome with Leonardo’s horse in the background, with Francis Taskayali’s concert.
